How To Prepare For Your X-ray Inspection

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) wants to make sure your x-ray machine is working properly and being used safely. Our inspectors are qualified by the state of Colorado to help you meet the state regulations. An inspector may ask for the following.

  • Records from previous inspections. If the machine is newly installed, a report of assembly from the installer or vendor is needed.
  • Dosimetry badges and reports or proof of an approved exemption. If you do not have dosimetry badges, we can recommend some suppliers.
  • List of approved operators for your machine and their credentials or training on the machine
  • Shielding design, if required by the state. (If you’re not sure, we can tell you.)
  • Documentation of an annual review of radiation safety.
  • Technique charts and safety procedures available in the control area.
  • If you use a film processor, documentation of ongoing QA procedures for the processor.
  • Analytical machines require that a radiation survey meter (Geiger counter) is available.
